How do you properly care for umbrellas?

We're increasingly being asked how to properly care for umbrellas. What can you do to ensure a quality umbrella lasts as long as possible?

Essentially, umbrella care is very simple and easy to implement. That's why we've summarized the most important points in this article.

Before first use

We always recommend opening the umbrella before first use and letting it stand overnight, or ideally for 24 hours. This allows the fabric to flatten and any wrinkles should disappear. After that, the umbrella is ready for use, and no further preparation is necessary.

We also recommend repeating the described process from time to time (2-3 times a year, for example). This way, wrinkles don't stand a chance and it doesn't impair the functionality of the umbrella.

Always dry the umbrella completely

You should always make sure to dry an umbrella thoroughly after use. Slow drying overnight is the key. The best way to dry is to simply leave the umbrella open.

Sapor Design umbrellas feature our special Lotus Effect . This works best for short periods of time and when things need to be done quickly. Even with the Lotus Effect, complete drying is essential and absolutely necessary for the durability of an umbrella.

Additionally, regular drying of our umbrellas ensures that the water-repellent coating remains particularly effective, even after years of use.

Proper storage of umbrellas

Once the umbrella is completely dry, it's best to store it in the included cover. This provides optimal protection when not in use. It prevents dust from getting on the umbrella, for example, and it doesn't take up much space.

At Sapor, we place great importance on the aesthetics of umbrellas. Therefore, we recommend folding the umbrella neatly before storing it. This is actually quite easy and only requires a little attention for 2.3 minutes.

On the one hand, the umbrella does not wrinkle and, on the other hand, careful handling of the product also contributes to its longer lifespan.

How to clean umbrellas properly

From time to time, you should wipe the screen with a damp cloth. Avoid using harsh cleaning agents or similar products; at most, use a little dishwashing liquid or gentle cleaning products. Wiping with a damp cloth is usually sufficient and also ensures that the special protective coating is not damaged.

How to care for the frame

The mechanism is designed to function smoothly countless times. However, you should still wipe the shaft down from time to time and, if necessary, spray it with a little natural oil or something like bicycle oil.

Proper care of the fabric

It's worth smoothing a high-quality umbrella with a steamer or steam iron every now and then. Simply open the umbrella and use the hot steam to flatten the material properly.

As already mentioned, it's definitely a good idea to leave the umbrella open for a while every now and then. This way, fewer wrinkles form and the fabric retains its beautiful shape and high quality.

Overall, it's safe to say that caring for an umbrella doesn't take much time. Proper handling of this everyday item is sensible and highly recommended. Then nothing will stand in the way of years of use, whatever the weather.
