Product description

The Sapor Distinct is our most elaborate full-length umbrella. Its curved handle is made from ironwood, whose natural grain gives each piece its own character. Automatic opening raises the canopy at the press of a button. Eight reinforced fibreglass ribs, a strong steel shaft and an integrated damper stabilise the frame and produce a resonant, controlled sound as the umbrella opens. With a canopy diameter of 113 cm, the Distinct covers one or two people.

Brown/Beige has a double-layer canopy in two colours. The exterior is entirely dark brown, while the interior is beige. The second colour becomes fully visible only when the umbrella is opened. This creates clearly defined outer and inner surfaces without patterns or additional decorative elements.

The tightly woven pongee allows water to bead and run off cleanly and has a rich, matte surface. Closed, the Distinct measures 92 cm and weighs 585 g in this double-layer version. The adjustable sleeve protects the umbrella and allows it to be carried comfortably over the shoulder.

Five-year warranty

Our umbrellas are made to accompany you for many years. Every Sapor umbrella therefore comes with a five-year warranty from the date of purchase.

The warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship and requires proof of purchase. Damage caused by improper use or external forces is excluded.

If you make a warranty claim, we will assess whether your umbrella can be repaired or should be replaced with an equivalent product. Email hello@sapordesign.com with a detailed description of the problem; photographs will help us make an initial assessment.

The warranty applies in addition to your statutory rights and does not limit them.

Use & safety instructions

Check the umbrella for visible damage before opening it. Do not use a damaged umbrella; contact us at hello@sapordesign.com.

Open the umbrella only when there is sufficient space, and never towards other people or animals. Gently shake out folding umbrellas before opening so that the fabric and ribs can unfold freely.

Avoid using the umbrella in exceptionally strong winds and keep the outside of the canopy facing into the wind. Do not allow children to play with the umbrella or its opening mechanism.

After use, leave the umbrella fully open to dry at room temperature. Return it to its sleeve only when completely dry. Marks can be removed carefully with a damp cloth.

With the Distinct, the umbrella canopy becomes a canvas for design. Colors and patterns are created across its eight segments; seams, repetitions, and transitions are precisely incorporated into the design.

The curved ironwood handle and the unique fabric construction make every Distinct an especially tangible and distinctive stick umbrella.

Round ironwood handle

The color and grain of the natural ironwood vary slightly with each handle, making every piece unique. The canopy opens automatically at the push of a button.

Reinforced 8-rib frame

Eight reinforced fiberglass ribs and a steel shaft support the canopy. The built-in damper creates a rich, controlled sound when opening.

Adjustable sleeve

The color-coordinated cover protects the umbrella and can be comfortably carried over the shoulder with its adjustable carrying strap.

Double-layered canopy

On the outside, the umbrella canopy is dark brown, and beige on the inside. Two separate layers of fabric create a distinct contrast between the understated exterior and the lighter interior.

Classic and Modern are our largest and intentionally monochromatic stick umbrellas. They share the same construction and differ only in their handles.

The Distinct is more compact and distinct in its design. Its ironwood handle, limited color combinations and patterns, and—depending on the version—its double-layered canopy make it our most elaborate stick umbrella line.

Frequently asked questions

Can Sapor umbrellas be personalised?

We consider personalisation and custom executions on request. For companies, hotels, events or special projects, bespoke variants may also be possible depending on quantity and execution.

Can my umbrella be repaired?

Email hello@sapordesign.com with a brief description of the problem and, if possible, a few photographs.

We will assess personally whether a repair is possible and worthwhile, then agree the next steps with you. Please do not dismantle or attempt to repair the umbrella beforehand.

Is the canopy waterproof?

The tightly woven polyester is highly water-repellent, allowing raindrops to bead and run off the surface. After prolonged use, some moisture may remain around seams, folds and between layers of fabric.

The umbrella should therefore be left fully open to dry at room temperature after every use.

What does automatic opening mean on full-length umbrellas?

On Distinct, Classic and Modern, pressing the button opens the canopy. To close it, guide the runner carefully towards the handle by hand until the mechanism locks into place.

Are Sapor umbrellas wind-resistant?

Our umbrellas are designed so that the frame and fibreglass ribs can yield in a controlled way in the wind. No umbrella, however, can be wind-resistant without limits.

In strong gusts, keep the outside of the canopy facing into the wind wherever possible. During storms or extreme wind, we recommend keeping the umbrella closed.

No umbrella can remain fully protected under every wind condition.

Why does Sapor use fibreglass ribs?

Fibreglass combines strength with a degree of flexibility. In the wind, the frame can yield in a controlled way rather than bending permanently at once.

Depending on the model, it is paired with an aluminium or steel shaft. An umbrella’s resilience, however, always depends on the complete construction—not on a single material.

What distinguishes a well-made umbrella?

The number of ribs is only one factor. What matters is the interplay of a strong yet flexible frame, an evenly tensioned canopy, clean stitching, reliable mechanics and a handle that sits comfortably in the hand.

For us, access to spare parts, repair options and a clear warranty are also part of a well-made product.

How many people can the umbrellas cover?

All current Sapor umbrellas provide generous coverage for one person and can also be used by two.

Essential and Iconic have a diameter of 107 cm, while Distinct measures 113 cm. Classic and Modern offer the greatest coverage at 121 cm and are particularly comfortable when regularly shared by two people.

Why does each ironwood handle look slightly different?

Ironwood is a natural material. Grain, colour and fine surface details therefore vary slightly from one handle to the next. These variations are not flaws; they make every handle individual.

Which Distinct variants have a double-layer canopy?

Blue Abstract, Black Abstract, Black Drop, Green Drop, Blue/Red, Black/Green and Brown/Beige have a double-layer canopy.

Color Mix is deliberately single-layered and, at 509 g, is the lightest Distinct variant. The double-layer variants weigh 585 g.

What makes Distinct different?

Distinct combines a curved handle in genuine ironwood with limited colours and designs developed specifically for Sapor. Most variants also feature a double-layer canopy made from two differently designed layers of fabric.

At 113 cm in diameter, it offers generous coverage without reaching the scale of our largest full-length umbrellas.

Which Sapor umbrella is right for me?

If you are looking for a folding umbrella for a bag or backpack, choose between Essential and Iconic. Essential is our classic folding umbrella for everyday use. Iconic is our flagship folding model, with a particularly stable ten-rib frame and a consistently monochrome design.

Classic and Modern are our largest full-length umbrellas. Their construction is largely identical; the main difference is the handle. Classic has a curved wooden crook handle, while Modern has a straight wooden handle.

Distinct is our most individual line. Its ironwood handle, limited designs and—depending on the variant—double-layer canopy give it a distinctive presence.
