Our full-length umbrella with a straight wooden handle. The Modern combines a lacquered wooden handle with automatic opening, a sturdy 8-rib construction and a built-in damper for a rich sound when opening. The matte, water-repellent canopy is solid black. An adjustable, colour-matched sleeve is included.

Product description

The Sapor Modern is our full-length umbrella with a straight, lacquered wooden handle. The handle continues the line of the shaft and gives the closed umbrella its characteristic linear form. Its smooth surface sits comfortably in the hand.

Automatic opening raises the canopy at the press of a button. Eight fibreglass ribs and a strong steel shaft support the 121 cm canopy and give the construction stability. An integrated damper produces a resonant, controlled sound as the umbrella opens.

The generous canopy protects one or two people. The tightly woven pongee allows water to bead and run off cleanly, while giving the black a rich, matte surface.

For this version, the canopy is finished in solid black.

The Modern measures 97 cm and weighs 623 g. Its adjustable, colour-matched sleeve protects the umbrella and allows it to be carried comfortably over the shoulder.

Five-year warranty

Our umbrellas are made to accompany you for many years. Every Sapor umbrella therefore comes with a five-year warranty from the date of purchase.

The warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship and requires proof of purchase. Damage caused by improper use or external forces is excluded.

If you make a warranty claim, we will assess whether your umbrella can be repaired or should be replaced with an equivalent product. Email hello@sapordesign.com with a detailed description of the problem; photographs will help us make an initial assessment.

The warranty applies in addition to your statutory rights and does not limit them.

Use & safety instructions

Check the umbrella for visible damage before opening it. Do not use a damaged umbrella; contact us at hello@sapordesign.com.

Open the umbrella only when there is sufficient space, and never towards other people or animals. Gently shake out folding umbrellas before opening so that the fabric and ribs can unfold freely.

Avoid using the umbrella in exceptionally strong winds and keep the outside of the canopy facing into the wind. Do not allow children to play with the umbrella or its opening mechanism.

After use, leave the umbrella fully open to dry at room temperature. Return it to its sleeve only when completely dry. Marks can be removed carefully with a damp cloth.

Frequently asked questions

Can my umbrella be repaired?

Email hello@sapordesign.com with a brief description of the problem and, if possible, a few photographs.

We will assess personally whether a repair is possible and worthwhile, then agree the next steps with you. Please do not dismantle or attempt to repair the umbrella beforehand.

Is the canopy waterproof?

The tightly woven polyester is highly water-repellent, allowing raindrops to bead and run off the surface. After prolonged use, some moisture may remain around seams, folds and between layers of fabric.

The umbrella should therefore be left fully open to dry at room temperature after every use.

What does automatic opening mean on full-length umbrellas?

On Distinct, Classic and Modern, pressing the button opens the canopy. To close it, guide the runner carefully towards the handle by hand until the mechanism locks into place.

Are Sapor umbrellas wind-resistant?

Our umbrellas are designed so that the frame and fibreglass ribs can yield in a controlled way in the wind. No umbrella, however, can be wind-resistant without limits.

In strong gusts, keep the outside of the canopy facing into the wind wherever possible. During storms or extreme wind, we recommend keeping the umbrella closed.

No umbrella can remain fully protected under every wind condition.

Why does Sapor use fibreglass ribs?

Fibreglass combines strength with a degree of flexibility. In the wind, the frame can yield in a controlled way rather than bending permanently at once.

Depending on the model, it is paired with an aluminium or steel shaft. An umbrella’s resilience, however, always depends on the complete construction—not on a single material.

What distinguishes a well-made umbrella?

The number of ribs is only one factor. What matters is the interplay of a strong yet flexible frame, an evenly tensioned canopy, clean stitching, reliable mechanics and a handle that sits comfortably in the hand.

For us, access to spare parts, repair options and a clear warranty are also part of a well-made product.

How many people can the umbrellas cover?

All current Sapor umbrellas provide generous coverage for one person and can also be used by two.

Essential and Iconic have a diameter of 107 cm, while Distinct measures 113 cm. Classic and Modern offer the greatest coverage at 121 cm and are particularly comfortable when regularly shared by two people.

What is the difference between Classic and Modern?

Classic and Modern share the same large 121 cm canopy, an eight-rib fibreglass frame, a strong steel shaft and automatic opening.

Classic has a curved crook handle in lacquered wood. Modern has a straight wooden handle, giving it a cleaner, more linear character.

Which Sapor umbrella is right for me?

If you are looking for a folding umbrella for a bag or backpack, choose between Essential and Iconic. Essential is our classic folding umbrella for everyday use. Iconic is our flagship folding model, with a particularly stable ten-rib frame and a consistently monochrome design.

Classic and Modern are our largest full-length umbrellas. Their construction is largely identical; the main difference is the handle. Classic has a curved wooden crook handle, while Modern has a straight wooden handle.

Distinct is our most individual line. Its ironwood handle, limited designs and—depending on the variant—double-layer canopy give it a distinctive presence.
