The Sapor Iconic is the flagship of our folding umbrella collection and our most distinctive model. Its large, column-shaped handle gives it its unmistakable form and sits comfortably in the hand. The The automatic open/close mechanism operates the canopy at the press of a button.

Whereas folding umbrellas are usually constructed with eight ribs, and occasionally nine, the Iconic spans its canopy across ten fibreglass ribs. They divide it into ten narrow, evenly tensioned panels and give the frame its particular stability. At the same time, they create the finely segmented silhouette by which the Iconic is immediately recognisable.

With a canopy diameter of 107 cm, it protects one or two people.

An unusual detail of this version is its consistent use of colour: the handle, cotton wrist strap and canopy are all made in green. As the three components are made from different materials, matching them precisely is particularly demanding. This disciplined use of colour is a deliberate feature of the Iconic.

The tightly woven pongee canopy allows water to bead and run off cleanly, while giving the green a rich, matte surface.

Closed, the Iconic measures 32 cm and weighs 463 g. A padded zipped sleeve protects the umbrella and makes it easier to stow. It is presented in a colour-matched gift box.

Five-year warranty

Our umbrellas are made to accompany you for many years. Every Sapor umbrella therefore comes with a five-year warranty from the date of purchase.

The warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship and requires proof of purchase. Damage caused by improper use or external forces is excluded.

If you make a warranty claim, we will assess whether your umbrella can be repaired or should be replaced with an equivalent product. Email hello@sapordesign.com with a detailed description of the problem; photographs will help us make an initial assessment.

The warranty applies in addition to your statutory rights and does not limit them.

Use & safety instructions

Check the umbrella for visible damage before opening it. Do not use a damaged umbrella; contact us at hello@sapordesign.com.

Open the umbrella only when there is sufficient space, and never towards other people or animals. Gently shake out folding umbrellas before opening so that the fabric and ribs can unfold freely.

Avoid using the umbrella in exceptionally strong winds and keep the outside of the canopy facing into the wind. Do not allow children to play with the umbrella or its opening mechanism.

After use, leave the umbrella fully open to dry at room temperature. Return it to its sleeve only when completely dry. Marks can be removed carefully with a damp cloth.

Columnar handle

The large, columnar handle defines the distinctive shape of the Iconic and fits securely in your hand. The integrated automatic open/close function opens and closes the umbrella canopy at the touch of a button.

The Essential, with eight ribs and weighing 423 grams, is the lighter and more familiar solution. The Iconic features ten ribs, a larger handle, and a consistent color scheme. It is our most exceptional pocket umbrella in terms of construction and design.

Frequently asked questions

Is the canopy waterproof?

The tightly woven polyester is highly water-repellent, allowing raindrops to bead and run off the surface. After prolonged use, some moisture may remain around seams, folds and between layers of fabric.

The umbrella should therefore be left fully open to dry at room temperature after every use.

What does automatic open/close mechanism mean?

On Essential and Iconic, pressing the button opens and closes the canopy.

Once the canopy has closed, push the telescopic shaft towards the handle by hand until it audibly locks into place. Keep sufficient distance from other people while doing so.

What should I do if a folding umbrella inverts?

A strong gust can turn the canopy of a flexible folding umbrella inside out. This does not necessarily indicate a defect; it allows the frame to release some of the load.

Close the umbrella using the automatic open-and-close button, check the ribs and fabric for visible damage, then open it again. Do not force or bend the ribs back by hand.

Are Sapor umbrellas wind-resistant?

Our umbrellas are designed so that the frame and fibreglass ribs can yield in a controlled way in the wind. No umbrella, however, can be wind-resistant without limits.

In strong gusts, keep the outside of the canopy facing into the wind wherever possible. During storms or extreme wind, we recommend keeping the umbrella closed.

No umbrella can remain fully protected under every wind condition.

Why does Sapor use fibreglass ribs?

Fibreglass combines strength with a degree of flexibility. In the wind, the frame can yield in a controlled way rather than bending permanently at once.

Depending on the model, it is paired with an aluminium or steel shaft. An umbrella’s resilience, however, always depends on the complete construction—not on a single material.

What is the difference between Essential and Iconic?

Both are compact folding umbrellas with a 107 cm canopy and a closed length of 32 cm.

Essential weighs 423 g and has an eight-rib frame and a comfortable black handle. Iconic weighs 463 g and has a particularly stable ten-rib frame. Its handle, cotton wrist strap and canopy are all colour-matched.

Essential is the more familiar choice for everyday use. Iconic is our most distinctive folding umbrella in both construction and design.

Which Sapor umbrella is right for me?

If you are looking for a folding umbrella for a bag or backpack, choose between Essential and Iconic. Essential is our classic folding umbrella for everyday use. Iconic is our flagship folding model, with a particularly stable ten-rib frame and a consistently monochrome design.

Classic and Modern are our largest full-length umbrellas. Their construction is largely identical; the main difference is the handle. Classic has a curved wooden crook handle, while Modern has a straight wooden handle.

Distinct is our most individual line. Its ironwood handle, limited designs and—depending on the variant—double-layer canopy give it a distinctive presence.
